The St. James's Department of Safety & Rescue (DSR), is an integral part of its commitment to safety. Initially created to oversee the safety of its aquatics center, the DSR provides lifeguard services for a 700,000-gallon 50-meter swimming pool and a 6,000 sq. ft. water park. Over time, the department evolved to encompass all emergency medical, and response needs across the entire facility. Comprised of dedicated professionals including lifeguards, aquatics technicians, emergency medical technicians, and department officers, the DSR is committed to fostering a culture of safety for The St. James and its partners. This award-winning team not only ensures safety but also seeks to inspire and maximize the potential of its members through a shared passion for achievement and community.
In 2023, the DSR continued its growth by providing services contracts for lake properties, neighborhood pool facilities, swim teams, and open water events. This expansion has allowed the department to broaden its reach and enhance its expertise in aquatics management and lifesaving skills. Looking ahead, the DSR aims to further expand its presence across other properties in the Northern Virginia area, leveraging its experience and dedication to provide top-notch safety and rescue services. With a track record of excellence and a commitment to continuous improvement, the DSR is poised to lead the way in aquatics safety and emergency response in the region.

We offer American Red Cross certification courses that provide essential lifesaving skills for both you and your community. Programs include Lifeguarding (water rescue and emergency response), CPR/AED (cardiac emergency care), First Aid (medical response for injuries), and Babysitting (child safety and emergency preparedness).
