Champions are Made Here
The Competitive Swim Team at the St. James is designed for athletes committed to taking their swimming to the next level. With practices multiple times a week, this advanced training focuses on building technique, endurance, and race strategies.
In addition to in-water workouts, athletes gain a competitive edge through strength and conditioning sessions led by expert trainers using state-of-the-art equipment, ensuring a well-rounded approach to performance improvement.
With a focus on year-round development, this swim program offers the structure, intensity, and support needed to excel in competitive swimming. Athletes will refine their skills, build strength, and gain valuable experience in a dynamic, high-performance environment—preparing them to compete at their best.
Strength and Conditioning
As we approach swimming, our coaches think it is not only vitally important to the overall growth of an athlete within the sport but in also in helping establish healthy habits out of the pool. For this reason, we are excited to offer our own dedicated Strength and Conditioning program.
The program is overseen by Performance Director Mateus Manoel - Mateus directs sport training programs through a refined, data-driven approach that enhances athleticism, improves performance, and reduces injury risk for clients of all ages and levels. With more than a decade of experience across MLS clubs, the U.S. Men’s National Team, and elite athletes from major pro leagues, he brings advanced expertise in strength and conditioning, sport science, recovery, and return-to-play, supported by degrees in kinesiology and exercise science and NSCA-CSCS certification.
The athletes are led on field by Christopher Skibinski - Chris is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with experience supporting a wide range of collegiate teams at Catawba College and Division I athletes during his internship at Longwood University. He also completed the EXOS summer performance internship and holds a bachelor’s in kinesiology from Longwood and a master’s in sport management from Catawba.
